Why order a glass of wine, when you could get it by the scoop? At Chateau Elan, wine and gelato have long been the unofficial mascots of summer, and now they are teaming up to create one, boozy bite. Introducing their new line of wine-based gelato, Chateau Elan’s hottest mashup kicks off with a trio of mouthwatering flavors – Strawberry Champagne, Red Wine Sangria, and Foxy Fresh.
Each treat, which contains that same amount of wine flavor as a 5-ounce glass, will be served from the resort’s Le Glacier gelato cart and is available in either a cone or bowl. Peddling around the property, guests can often catch Chateau Elan’s gelato bike stationed by the resort’s pool, in front of the winery, and on the patio of Le Petit Café.
Unlike your average frozen treat, this gelato works by combining Chateau Elan’s namesake wine with a creamy sugar base, which is then swirled with fresh fruit and herbs. Together, the mixture is all given an arctic blast of liquid nitrogen – providing an almost instant freeze. The need for this level of intense chill? Wine doesn’t freeze in the average freezer, even when combined with other ingredients.
Based out of Marietta, Georgia, High Road Creamery specializes in creative kitchen solutions and found that at -300 degrees Fahrenheit, liquid nitrogen froze and infused the resort’s wine with its creamy counterpart. Founded in 2010, High Road Creamery likes to think their products are equal parts science and magic—and we couldn’t agree more.
Strawberry Champagne starts with a Chateau Elan Brut champagne-infused vanilla base and is swirled with herbaceous basil and fresh strawberries. Starting with a Duncan Creek base, the Red Wine Sangria is wonderfully deep in flavor. It’s rich and creamy and tastes just like a classic red wine sangria with small slices of fresh fruit. The Foxy Fresh is a bright and summery new classic. With a beautiful ruby color, the flavor combines citrusy lemongrass with tart pomegranate and orange zest. Tastebuds, you’ve been warned.
