Stretch both two and four legs on the banks of Vickery Creek Falls at Old Mill Park. A covered pedestrian bridge leads to a five-mile hiking trail surrounded by rolling forest. This lush path rewards adventurers with views of a roaring waterfall tumbling from a steep rock bluff. The flowing waters cover rocky and grassy creek beds making for a lively, yet serene, site. Shorter-legged companions wanting a quicker route to the reward will find a direct path to the falls starting at Old Mill Park. For more outdoor beauty that both man and man’s best friend will love, check out the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Usually clear, cool and enveloped by pines, the creek offers a perfect place to take a long stroll. For an even slower pace, pause and drop a line to reel in trout, bass and catfish.

Make way to the Roswell Riverwalk. This easily accessible seven-mile Greenway is a combination of paved, dirt and boardwalk trails. Wind through the peaceful woods that parallel the Chattahoochee River. Need to refuel? Pause and picnic with the pup at one of the several parks along the path.

Time travel with the fur-buddy more than a hundred years into the past by walking the grounds and gardens of three gorgeous Southern homes, part of Roswell’s Southern Trilogy. Barrington Hall sits on seven acres in downtown Historic Roswell. This 1842 grand antebellum boasts a beautiful public garden along with original outbuildings. Slaves built the Greek Revival-inspired Bulloch Hall in 1839. Once home to President Theodore Roosevelt’s mother, Mittie, this historic site is rich in both history and beauty. Last but not least, hidden among the trees is the Smith Plantation. Built in 1845, the home is one of the best examples of vernacular architecture in the region. Peruse the sprawling grounds which feature many outbuildings, including servants’ quarters, a cookhouse and a barn.

Traveling the first Saturday of the month, May through October? Dogs are welcome to join the fun at Roswell Riverside Sounds Concert Series where beer, wine and sangria flow and food trucks offering tasty temptations line the venue. Bring a chair, a blanket and some water for furry friends, while kicking back to the sounds of country, soul, jazz, rock, pop and folk artists who fill the air throughout the season.

For indoor explorations, head to Serendipity on the Square. This fabulous boutique is a little bit funky, a little bit trendy and a lot charming. Most importantly—it’s dog-friendly! Shop local- and U.S.-made goods and don’t forget to stop at the nearby Visitor’s Center to get a free dog treat. Spoil the pup further at The Downtown Pooch. Situated inside a cozy, historic cottage in the heart of Downtown Roswell, this specialty pet boutique carries the most exclusive products to ensure the longevity, health and happiness of beloved furry friends.

Speaking of downtown, no trip to Roswell is complete without a stroll down Historic Canton Street. Owners can take a break to savor sips at Deep Roots Wine Market and Tasting Room.
