Spend your next vacation a few miles offshore in this charming and quaint cottage nestled in the Historic District of downtown Brunswick. This 2-bedroom and 2-bathroom sweet green home sleeps five comfortably and was remodeled in 2018. There are two balconies and a screened-in porch out back with ceiling fans to keep cool in the Georgia heat.
Pets are more than welcome to join the family vacation for just an additional small fee. The cottage comes with a washer and dryer, and guests can end their vacation days watching a movie in the living room with the provided TV and Wi-Fi. Two communal pools provide an alternative relaxation spot if the beach just isn’t up to your taste. This cozy cottage is just 7 to 10 miles from St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island, where you can spend the day soaking up the sun or shopping. Tybee Island and Sea Island are also easily accessible from the cottage’s location.
If you want a quick bite to eat, Yellow Deli is the place to go. Located right across the street, this mom and pop shop offers breakfast, salads, and a variety of sandwiches and smoothies, ready for you to grab before heading out to explore downtown. Historic Brunswick is currently undergoing a renovation and restoration of historic buildings and public squares. You can visit the Old City Hall built in 1888 at the south end, and the Ritz Theatre, built as the Grand Ole Opry House in 1989, at the north end. Also known as Old Town, Historic Brunswick is continuing to renovate homes in a variety of styles dating back to 1819 including Queen Anne, Jacobean, Eastlake and more.
If history doesn’t interest you, don’t worry, because Brunswick has so much more to offer. You can board the Lady Jane, the only shrimp vessel on the east coast that has been certified to carry almost 50 passengers offshore. You can also rent a charter at one of two local marinas and spend the day fishing. For those who enjoy a morning jog or walk, a trail from Mary Ross Waterfront Park to Howard Coffin Park might be the path for you. For a fun dinner date, consider hopping aboard the Emerald Princess II casino cruise ship that sets sail 7 days a week out of Jekyll Island. For more kid-friendly activities, there is a classic arcade, a bowling alley, and a pottery studio to choose from.
The Richland Rum distillery tour is a must-do for rum and alcohol lovers. Originally distilled in Richland, Georgia, take a tour and learn all about Richland Rum’s distilling process and bring home a few bottles of the best rum in Georgia for yourself. For more fun drinking ideas, there’s plenty of breweries to stop by. A new brewing company, The Silver Bluff Brewing Co. will open in early 2020, and will sell beers with names like “Golden Isle”, “Third Island”, and “Jetty Crusher” to fit that Brunswick aesthetic.
The City Market of Brunswick originally started in 1948 and is also open seven days a week. Only the finest and most succulent shrimp in the sea is selected for the market. Above all else, we recommend taking a trip to one of the Golden Isles’ beaches during your stay. St. Simons Island is perfect for families and even dogs who love to go for a swim. You can purchase a fishing license at Gould’s Inlet and enjoy a bike ride and picnic. The southernmost island in the Golden Isles is Jekyll Island, with ten miles of beaches to escape to. For the brave of heart, try watching the sunrise on the haunted Driftwood Beach. The eerie Driftwood Beach of Jekyll Island offers several haunted tours throughout the year, the giant fallen trees across the shore giving the area a “spooky” look. At the end of the day, you will want to catch the sunset on St. Andrews beach—the only west-facing beach in the Isles. Keep an eye out for the sea turtles!
Don’t leave your four-legged best friend behind; the Golden Isles is known for its dog-friendly beaches all summer long. A list of the dog-friendly beaches includes St. Simons Island’s East Beach and Massengale Park, Jekyll Island’s Driftwood Beach, Great Dunes’ Beach, Oceanview Beach, and St. Andrews Beach. There are also a bunch of cool, shady dog parks for you to choose from across the islands. Island Dog is a dog lovers’ dream and will be your pet’s favorite place to stop for a delicious treat or new toy.
Brunswick is also home to many Dawg fans during the big rivalry weekend of the Georgia-Florida game. The island brings students, alumni, and fans from all over for a giant party at the beach. Since the railroad age of the 1930’s, the Georgia-Florida game has always been played in Jacksonville, Florida. This location is on the Gator’s home turf but is close enough to Georgia to make it accessible to fans of both teams. The stadium is also an easy hour drive from the islands.
